Vintage Media Printing
The Chicago Albumen Works offers printing services to historical photographic collections in every major silver-based nineteenth and early twentieth Century photographic print medium: photogenic drawing paper, salt paper, albumen paper, and gelatine-chloride printing-out paper. In addition, platinum and palladium printing services are also available.
Whether for reference or exhibition, these high-quality prints are a fusion of technical understanding and historical judgment. The Chicago Albumen Works takes pride in doing more than merely printing in a particular medium. We attempt to capture the character and feel that the original photographer achieved. Our vintage media prints have hung side-by-side with original prints in perfect harmony. All prints produced at the Chicago Albumen Works are indelibly marked to verify the details of their printing and their provenance.
The Chicago Albumen Works has printed for exhibition the work of many notable photographers, including: Eugene Atget, Eduard Baldus, Mathew Brady, Walker Evans, Francis Frith, William Henry Jackson, Fred E. Miller, Eadweard Muybridge, Timothy O'Sullivan, Jacob Riis and Wm. Lyman Underwood.

Contemporary Media Printing

Contemporary black and white prints for reference and exhibition are available on both fiber base and RC papers. The Albumen Works' printing darkroom can produce prints up to 20"x24" and can enlarge from negatives up to and including 10"x12". Archival processing of fiber prints is considered a standard, and RC prints are processed by machine to assure minimum wet time to and complete residual thiosulfate removal. In addition to straight black and white prints, the Chicago Albumen Works has developed a number of processing routines that can produce the feel of prints from earlier decades of the twentieth century.

Digital Printing

As part of our digital services, we offer high quality archival ink jet prints using only archival ink sets and archival quality papers. These prints will provide a long lasting and accurate view of the digital file from which they were derived, and are suitable for both reference and display. In keeping with our commitment to archival quality, the Albumen Works makes every effort to use the most stable ink and paper combinations for its digital printing.
