| Since 1989, the Chicago Albumen Works has functioned as curator and manager of the privately-held collection of the work of Fred E. Miller. The collection includes 135 glass plate negatives, 500 original prints, and 6 linear feet of personal documents and ephemera. Fred Miller was a clerk for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Crow Reservation in southeast Montana at the beginning of the twentieth century. A trained photographer, he photographed the Crow with a sensitivity and directness rarely seen in photographs of the American Indian. | ||

| In 1985, the Solio Foundation published a portfolio of Miller photographs. Entitled Boxpotapesh: Fred E. Miller - Photographer of the Crows, the portfolio contains twelve POP prints taken directly from original Miller glass plates and a colophon and booklet containing an introduction by Doug Munson of the Chicago Albumen Works and essays by Barney Old Coyote, historian of the Crow tribe and Joel Snyder, Professor of Art History at the University of Chicago. | ||

| In addition, an exhibition consisting of 104 prints, "Fred E. Miller: Photographer of the Crows," traveled the United States on two separate venues from the late 1980's through the mid- 1990's, the latter venue sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution traveling Exhibits Service (S.I.T.E.S.). | ||
