LVT Prices for Institutional Archiving

The following price list is for large quantities of LVT negative and positive film outputs (greater than 150 per order).

  1. Each file is printed with an output curve appropriate to printing on conventional enlarging paper (contrast grade 2).
  2. Each film is processed to a density range appropriate to printing on conventional enlarging paper (contrast grade 2).
  3. File size is assumed to be at, or above, the National Archives and Records Administration Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Archival Materials for Electronic Access. The NARA guidelines are available at: http://www.archives.gov/preservation/technical/guidelines.pdf

The minimum resolution allowed by the guidelines for digitizing photographs is summarized in the following table:

For Negatives smaller than 4x5”

4000 pixels on the long dimension

For Negatives at least 4x5” but smaller than 8x10”

6000 pixels on the long dimension

For Negatives 8x10” and larger

8000 pixels on the long dimension

For Prints 8x10” and smaller

4000 pixels on the long dimension

For Prints larger than 8x10,” up to and including 11x14”

6000 pixels on the long dimension

For Prints larger than 11x14”

8000 pixels on the long dimension

Files larger than these minimums may be outputted at higher resolution and/or onto larger film to preserve all the digital information. Pricing may vary.

Notes Regarding the Use of the Above Table:

  1. Square format images must output at the next higher resolution to fit on the same size film.
  2. Useable image area is approximately ½” smaller than nominal size. For example, a nominal 4x5” has a usable image area of 3 ½ x 4 ½.”
  3. LVT negative outputs at 1016/40 (ppi/ppm) allow enlargement up to 3X.
  4. LVT negative outputs at 1524/60 (ppi/ppm) allow enlargement up to 5X.
  5. LVT negative outputs at 2032/80 (ppi/ppm) allow enlargement up to 6X.
  6. LVT negative outputs at 3048/120 (ppi/ppm) allow enlargement up to 10X.
