Institutional Archiving

 

Archive digitizing at the Chicago Albumen Works attempts to address each of the following concepts:

 

  • Creation of files that are full and faithfull representation of each original negative or print.
  • Creation of files that are consistent with the NARA Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Archival Materials.
  • Creation of files that are robust enough to allow the re-creation of negatives for use in traditional printing.
  • Creation of full NISO technical metadata to accompany the files through time.
  • Retention of high bit depth files master files.
These goals are maintained by a committed staff with talent and training in both digital imaging and traditional photography. To achieve these goals, the digital lab at the Chicago Albumen Works is outfitted with the following capture and output equipment:
